We told the kids that they would only have enough time to open their Santa gift and stocking before 9am church on Christmas morning. The plan was to come back home and open the rest after church. What we didn't count on was how similar Haddon is to his dad...giddy on Christmas morning! At 6am he came bounding in the room wide eyed and raring to go - he had been biding his time until then. So we ended up waking up the rest of the family, except Amelia. She didn't feel so well, so we let her sleep until it was time to get ready for church. :( Poor baby.
Prepare for Christmas morning photo overload....and....go. :)
Of course, all of us were sportin' our fab-o bed head and jammies, but excited regardless, as if you couldn't tell by the expressions on our faces. :) My cheesy smile might have been affected by the Cuisinart I had just opened too :). We somehow managed to open all of our gifts, play with said gifts, and get to church by 9 am...just in time to hear Joel deliver a beautiful talk about the shepherd seeking after Christ. :) After the sacrament-only meeting, we came home to Christmas brunch and let Amelia enjoy her own little gift-opening session.
She kind of LOVED the giant bear and the new toothbrush...so much so that she would not let us take the brush out of her hand pretty much the rest of the day. :)
Joel tried to cut off his finger with his new knife...oops...which led to a funny little photo op. Nice giant finger Joel!
Ellie FULLY enjoyed her new Wii game - Just Dance 3. :)
And the rest of the day was spent preparing and devouring THE MOST DELICIOUS turkey dinner ever! Seriously, best turkey I have ever made. I brined it for 48 hours in a molasses lemon brine, which yielded the most tender, slightly salty meat. Mmmm, drooling thinking about it as I type. :) Grandma and the girls even made sugar-crusted glasses to enjoy our beverages out of - a special little touch that the kids adored! All in all, we really enjoyed being at home with family this year. Any takers for next year??? ;) Thanks for making the trip Mom, Dad and Adam!
