Hiking. Swift Waters. Antsy kids.

We just got back from hiking Donut Falls.  It was a welcome break from the drudgery that is our normal day of late.  Which of course involves all 6 of us under the same roof for WAY too long during the day.  We have been underwhelmed (or even, have yet to be 'whelmed' you could say) by the job offers, so needless to say, Joel is AnXiOuS to find gainful employment, and we nEeDeD to get out today. :) :) :) 

Today's hike was full of gorgeous mountain views, rushing 'spring-runoff' creeks, and cute kids ecstatic to be out of the house.  The trail ends somewhat abruptly at the falls, and 'we' (as in 'he') decided we needed to cross the treacherously fast current to the other side of the creek where there was a better vantage of the falls.

With much trepidation on my part, and much vocalization on Syd's part, we made it across the current, while onlookers were likely thinking "What in the world are they dragging those kids through the current for?!?"

Promptly after our snack break, Daddy decided to scale the practically vertical falls. "Avert your eyes kiddos, in case Daddy doesn't make it" was all I could say.

He made it.  And Paige promptly tried to do the same thing by scrambling up the slippery rocks.  That girl is fearless.  Which makes mommy fear-ful.  After about 45 minutes of throwing large rocks downstream, resting our hot feet in the icy cold water, catching Mayflie larvae, and holding tight to the back of Paige's shirt, we decided to return home.  What a welcome outing, even if full of a few breathless moments. If only I had remembered the camera...or maybe it's a good thing we didn't, 'cuz it would have just fallen into that current...:)
