Crazy Lazy Dayz

Anyone else out there finding it hard to get motivated in the mornings? Since day 1 with the kiddos, they have been early risers...like as in 6 am...even in the summer.  It was a blessing and a curse.  :) But, my slothfulness in the mornings has apparently rubbed off on them...for the last week, not one of the older kids has rolled out of bed until around 8:30.   Cue singing choir now....HALLELUJAH! I'm getting spoiled around here.  :) We've all had colds, so I'm sure that plays into it...but Joel has definitely been jealous as he leaves for work and I'm still taking those first luxurious sleepy all over stretches while still in bed. :)

At any rate, yesterday, around 11, the kids were finally awake and ready for the day, so we decided it was time to do something fun...make toy cars.  The kids were entertained for a good two hours doing this.

This is how we did it:
1. Smash the wheels and axles off of an old matchbox car...Haddon amassed quite the large collection, which he has tired of now, so he didn't mind sacrificing a few...I think he secretly LOVED this part.  :)
2.  Clip the axles in half with wire cutters, keeping the tires on the resulting halves.
3. Insert the tires on the axles into a small block of (soft) wood...we had a whole bunch of leftover scraps from our *new* fence.  (Mom had to help with this part)
4. Check to make sure it rolls...a few of the cars needed glue on the axles and a little bit of adjusting, but for the most part, they were ready to go.
5. Decorate and play!
